Nice article over at Women’s Day “Daily Dose”, by Abby Cuffey, Assistant Health Editor…regarding the SqueezeItIn.com quick and easy home fitness videos for women and moms seeking real time-saving exercise ideas and advice…
Here’s a great post from a new source of “professional women’s balance” guidance and war stories…The Fulcrumpoint
As I’ve worked my way through all of the women/mom acronyms, I think that I’ve covered all bases….I’ve been a DINK (dual income no kids) a COHM (Career Outside the Home Mom), a SAHM (Stay at Home Mom), a WAHM (Work at Home Mom), and a CAHM (Career At Home Mom). Trying to live that perfect Mom, Wife, Work, Life balance, I think I’m getting pretty close with my current status as a CAHM. I’ll try to sum up my perspective of each one:
DINK: As the name implies, plenty of disposable income to spend on things that related to ‘me’ (and my husband), plenty of time to go to the movies, go to restaurants, lay around the house on a Saturday, go on vacation, etc. But, if I’m really honest, we always felt like something was missing, and we spent a lot of time talking about and planning for children (how many, what would name them, how much fun they would be….)
COHM: Guilt. This basically sums up my experience with continuing to work while raising children. I had guilt about leaving my newborn with a nanny, I had guilt about always having to leave the office before everyone else, I had guilt about my work colleagues having to adjust their schedule to accommodate my ‘new mom’ schedule.
Even with a reduced work week (which really meant that my former full-time schedule of 60 hours a week was reduced to a ‘part-time’ schedule of 40…), I couldn’t make this work. My house was a disaster, my toddler ran and jumped in the nanny’s lap when she saw me come home from work, and I really felt like I wasn’t contributing at work as I had during my ‘pre-kid’ days. With baby #2 on the way and the realization that the only way for me to advance at work would be to completely outsource 100% of my personal life, I quit.

I believe a modern mom is a mom who loves who she is as she is; the child-rearing stretchmarks, the droopy boobs; or the very fit post pregnancy mom; either way any way; modern moms love themselves for who they are which is so AMAZING in today’s society. Being a mom and is very proud to show it to others; there is a confidence that a modern mom has that is so amazing. We need to be reminded as moms how far we have come as woman in this generation…
We need to be reminded as moms how far we have come as woman in this generation. Modern moms feel beautiful inside and out; just look at mom’s when you are out, you can see it. I know I can.
Today’s modern mom is defined by so many things… Our strong will to achieve and aspire to reach our goals no matter what we have going on…the modern mom I believe loves each aspect of their life so much. It is such a joy and feeling of fulfillment to contribute in so many ways and the key point….being able to reach their goals with the support of their family and friends. The modern mom is a professional multi-tasker, loving; inspriational, and role model for their family; for example, the things that go on in a family’s typical week; school, work, chores, sports, playdates, date night, etc. , children raised by modern moms are learning at a very young age the importance of life long skills because they see their mom making time for themselves for things they have a passion for; and they make time for things their kids have interests in, and most importantly kids see modern moms make time for date night with their significant other; all of these things are critical and so important to teach children that balance in life is the key to happiness. feels so proud to have to have created a family in this generation with so many challenges like balance of career and family.

Loudoun moms and parents representing the Dulles South area of Loudoun County are coming out fast and strong to support relief to the current and future school overcrowding issues, in this fastest-growing area of Loudoun County, VA. Loudoun moms in particular came out full-force in last night’s town-hall style meeting with Loudoun Board of Supervisors Stevens Miller, who represents the Dulles South district. Supervisor Miller is evidently “leaning” against approval of the currently available “Lenah Run” area property for a new Middle and High School – while his constituents are overwhelmingly opposed. His town-hall meeting with Dulles South residents left many unconvinced their message is getting through – thought his statements indicated reconsideration is likely in the face of overwhelming Loudoun mom and parent needs.
